St Mary’s Festival: Sat 11 and Sun 12 September 2021

Join us for a community celebration in and around St Mary’s Church Denham. Our theme for this year is “Lament and Laughter” – acknowledging what we have lost and celebrating a sense of hope together.

You can now sign up for many of the events. If there is not sign-up link below you can simply turn up. Some events have limited numbers, so please sign up as soon as you can. Thank you!

We will take great care to make this a safe event. For events and services inside St Mary’s we are asking you to wear a mask (unless you have a medical exemption) so we protect one another.

SATURDAY 11 SEPTEMBER

In the morning: Fit and Fun

Join us for a range of activities for all ages. This includes runs, walks, cycle rides, bell chiming, children’s sport day and activities – exercise, have fun, enjoy God’s creation and community together!

The goal is not to be competitive, so do join in. We are inviting you to make a donation towards St Mary’s Fabric Fund.

If you can, please sign up with the links below to help us plan, although some events have unlimited places and you can turn up on the day. If there is no sign-up link for an event, simply turn up!

  • 9am: Fit and Fun - walk, run, cycle. Sign-up links soon!

    All activities will start and finish at St Mary’s Church.
    We are inviting you to make a suggested donation (£5pp which includes a snack and a drink, pay on arrival) towards St Mary’s Fabric Fund. You are very welcome to find additional sponsors or to join us without making a gift.

    Please arrive a little before 9am as the groups will head off around 9am.

    Choose from the following options:

    1k Circular Walk:

  • From 10am: Children‘s Activities around St Mary’s Church

    Giant Jenga, big building blocks, Duplo, Drawing & Colouring Zone, Hula Hoops, Hopscotch
    (all free)

    Teddy Bear tombola, Faceprint and Wildlife tattoos (family friendly prices!)

  • From 10am: Refreshments outside St Mary’s Vestry

    Hot and cold drinks and snacks (including donuts and onion bhajis) available to buy until midday.

  • From 10am: Children’s Sports Day. More details soon!

    Classic Sport’s day activities on Denham Village Green. A safe space to have fun and healthy exercise. Drinks and small soft toys for all participants.

  • 10.30-11.15am: Chiming St Mary’s Bells - give it a go!

    Chime the bells of St Mary’s Church!

    No need to sign up – just drop in and give it a go.

    Our bell ringing captain, Andrew Simpson, will ensure that this is done very safely – always one person at a time and near the main door with lots of fresh air.

  • 11.20am: Little Lions Party, St Mary’s Church

    20 minutes of singing, dancing and laughter – get a taste of what our toddler group is all about and learn some of our best loved songs and nursery rhymes. This event is particularly for families with toddlers and children up to the age of four. Older siblings are most welcome to join in and teach us all some new dance moves. (No charge for this event)

In the afternoon (2pm – 5pm):

Open Church at St Mary’s – “Lament and Laughter”

Pop in for a minute or for longer. Remember a loved person or celebrate the birth of a child or a wedding.

Vestry Teas from 2pm to 5pm.

  • Memory Tree

    Write your memories of a loved person on a ‘leaf’ and add them to our memory tree inside St Mary’s Church.

    We will also display photos of those we remember with love.

  • Light a candle

    Light a candle in St Mary’s Church to remember a loved person or as a visible sign of your prayers.

  • Celebration bunting

    A bunting inside St Mary’s Church, celebrating recent births, baptisms and weddings

  • Vestry Teas

    Finally back after a long pause!

    Enjoy a nice cuppa and a home-made cake in our vestry and (weather allowing) churchyard.

    (The money raised will support our Give & Share ministry and the maintenance of St Mary’s Church and Churchyard).

SUNDAY 12 SEPTEMBER

Two celebration services, Open Garden (with tea and cakes), Barbecue, and a Concert.

    Spend the afternoon in the beautiful garden of The White House.

    With treasure hunt for children!

    Your entrance fee will include a cake and a drink (available from 2pm).

    Children, people with walkers and dogs on leads are welcome.

  • 4pm: Singing Vicar

    Join our Rector Christoph Lindner as he sings some of his favourite songs, together with one or two special guests.

    To keep everyone safe, we are still limiting numbers at St Mary’s Church. There is also an option to join us online on Zoom (sign up required).
